Sustainable Fashion ESL Lesson Plan Description

OBJECTIVE & OVERVIEW

This sustainable fashion ESL lesson plan contains PDF worksheets, activities, and digital materials for B1 - B2 students. By the end of the lesson, students will understand the benefits of recycling clothing properly and some innovative ways in which clothing can be recycled.

PREVIEW & DISCUSSION

This ESL lesson plan on sustainable fashion begins by students doing an activity on the typical life cycle of clothing. Next, there are discussion questions about fashion, clothing, and shopping. Students then do a matching activity on some words used in the video. Students connect some of these vocabulary terms to the images in the first activity on the life cycle of clothing.

VIDEO & LISTENING COMPREHENSION

Before watching the video, students discuss one more question about fashion and sustainability. After that, students watch an informative report about an innovative fashion recycling method in Italy. After watching the video, students answer some short questions and then put the process of turning waste into clothes in the correct order.

DISCUSSION & PASSIVE VOICE (MODAL VERBS)

In the viewing follow-up section of the lesson, there are some discussion questions prepared for students that explore this method of fashion recycling they learned about in the video. Then, students answer some questions about some quotes from the video that feature modal verbs (can't / could) in the passive voice. In the last activity in this section, student convert some active voice sentences about recycling clothing, using the modal verbs "can't" and "could" in the passive voice.

PLANNING GREEN INITIATIVES

In the final, communicative activities in this lesson, students imagine they're members of thier community's "Green Team" recently established. Their mission is to make their local environment more eco-friendly. They think of campaigns/initiatives that could make their local environments more sustainable using the modal verbs "can't" and "could" in the passive voice.

They can choose one idea from a list provided, or think of their own. Then, students present and engage in active discussions about their green initiatives they came up with.

Benefits of using this sustainable fashion ESL lesson plan:

Critical Thinking: Students engage in critical thinking by discussing the potential benefits and limitations of innovative recycling methods in sustainable fashion.

Environmental Awareness: The lesson promotes awareness of environmental issues related to fashion, encouraging students to think about how recycling can contribute to sustainability.

Creative Problem-Solving: Students can brainstorm creative solutions and ideas using modal verbs to suggest what "could" or "can't" be done to enhance recycling methods.

Video Description
