By the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand and clearly describe the lifestyle of a digital nomad, the pros and cons of living as one, and actively use certain nouns and noun phrases in the context of remote work and digital nomad life.

PREVIEW & DISCUSSION

This lesson on digital nomads and remote work opens up by students describing some images of digital nomads, and comparing and contrasting the differences between digital nomads, freelancers and a few other job roles. Students then do an activity in which they assess a list of nouns and adjectives, and they decide whether they would associate them with digital nomad life or not. They proceed to an activity in which they discuss some job roles that digital nomads do and top destinations for them to work.

VIDEO & LISTENING COMPREHENSION

Students watch a video about two men who live the digital nomad lifestyle, and describe the type of work they do, and the benefits of this type of lifestyle. Students do a listening activity that includes a multiple choice exercise, filling out some information about the mens’ lives, and then a short listening for detail activity in which they complete the words they hear in the video.

VOCABULARY & DISCUSSION

To follow up the video, students do some more discussion questions about remote work and the digital nomad life, and then move on to an activity on some nouns/noun phrases used in the video. On the final activity on this page, students write the noun forms of some adjectives describing the downsides of digital nomad life.

PRODUCTION & ROLE PLAY TASKS

In the final activation stage of the lesson, students imagine their “dream” digital nomad life, and do a few speaking and role play activities surrounding it. They have the option to discuss some questions, or partake in a role play phone call with a friend using some of the nouns they learned in the lesson plan.
